The Vid that we shot in egypt and was edited by sam light
Here are a couple of clips from the movie that is being made.
6th Feb You might well have seen on the news lately that a massive ferry has washed up on the shores of blackpool. And if you havent, basically in a storm last week, a 150m or something ferry got hit by a wave and started listing badly and drifted in to the beach at clevelys and is now well and truely stranded on the beach. As the wreck is soo near to home i thought it would be rude not to have a session infront of it. Andy hoolie, Phil rossal and i all went on a stealth mission to sail the wreck. We got changed at Phils mansion and then ran down the beach, through the crowds gaping at the boat, rigged up and went out. The conditions were awesom and we had such a big crowd that it made for an epic session. After being flagged down by the coast guard for gettin too close to the boat and inside the 400m exclusion zone, we got booked by the coppers as well haha. Even though there were no signs to tell us of this zone. Anyway. Here are a coupleof pics from the the session. THanks to the people who took them
30th January Well ive just had my first major blood injury from kiting. It was a good day at stargate powered on my 7. The waves were nice and clean so i was going for some flat 3s and 5s. On one attempt i landed and then proceded to be powered bounced of my board and then dragged downwind. This would normally be fine but the board was then picked up by the wave and kindly dropped on my head as a jesture of good will by the wave. I had my neopreme hood on and i thought it was jus a bruised head. I blooded hurt though. I body dragged straight into the beach and just lay there for a while. Lukily 6er had just driven down to the waterside after his session and told me i had blood coming down the side of my head. I took off my hood and felt the back of my head, which reveiled a massive whole in my head. The gd lads at stargate packed up my kit, and i went straight home and then to hospital. After a 2 hour wait in A&E the doctor gave me 9 staples. This proceidure has to be one of the most painful things i have ever had done to me in my life. Imagine gettin a staple gun put to your head. Now this is exactly what it feels like but it is probably a bitmore painful because the staples go in slowly and you can feel them going right into your skull. If you are quisy i wouldn't look at the picture below.
18th January Just had my 18th Birthday party at the BLCC. In true kitesurfing and BLCC style it was an awesom night had by all. We had the bar keys so it was quite a late one. We closed the bar at 430am i think. THanks to all who came. It was AWESOM 22nd December Well. As i'm sure your all aware theres not been much wind lately and its been really cold. Don't think ive kitesurfed for 2 weeks now which kinda sucks. But ive got back into my skateboarding again. Fellow Starr Gate local Mik has built an amazing half pipe in his garden which is now our no wind alternative. Its a great laff and something to do when its not windy. Another big apology from me is the lack of updates to the site recently. Including the tricks section. I've had major issues with my laptop and it is now officially dead, complete with everything on it. So i dont have my editing software or any of my video to edit at the moment. Will hopefully get all my shit off it asap and then i can get back to work witht he videos, but for the time being you'll have to live without. I'm off to France skiing tomorow and really looking forward to that. I will take some pics and video while i'm out there and post it up as soon as i get home. Snow is really good at the moment so could be a great trip Merry Christmas everybody and a Happy New Year!!! Ali 11th November Westshore Weekend This weekend i headed up to westshore llandudno to see the Adam, Hoggy and 'Ohara off on there trip to brazil and also to get some flat water riding. Arrived at just before high tide and it was banging northwesterly. PERFECT. Pumped up my 7m and got ready to go out. If you don't know westshore then i will give you a quick description. Westshore is quite a big westerly facing bay but at the north end of the bay is a large sea wall defence in the form of a rock spit. At high tide this protrudes into the water and protects the water from the swell and wind so it is perfectly flat behind it. A little bit like kite beach at maui. Since the first time i have sailed there i have always considered jumping over the spit but never really had the bottle. But today i just went for it and instead of jumping it i megalooped it as i love megalooping. It was such a rush as i flew over the rocky spit. Unfortunatly it wasnt caught on camera but i will get it filmed next time im up that way. My next trick for the winter is planned and it includes a pier. Dream up the rest. hehe Doing my instructors course next week which should be a laff so yer. Ciao 29th Ocotber Ive recently been doing a revamp on my website and its currently being tested. Check it out on www.alibarrett.co.uk/test2.html any comments on what you like/dont like would be much appreciated thanks ali
23rd Septemper Went down to littlehampton last week for round 6 of the BKSA tour. Forecast wasn't looking that good but the locals were forecasting a sea breeze. Mark Connely and I headed down on wednesday night to stay with Lewis Crathern for a few days before the comp started. Unfortunatly there was no wind on thursday so we just flew kites on the green and chilled. On friday morning we headed to the comp site to register. There was a little bit of a breeze but not enough to get going yet. After hanging around for a bit, we managed to get out on the water but the wind was really up and down. One minute you would be powered, and then the wind would just turn off for a few minutes and you would be stuck out a sea. Not ideal. After an hour or so, they decided to run a slope style comp just so there would be a result in the event of no wind the whole weekend. Thankfully this ended up just being for fun. About half an hour after the slope style finished, the wind filled in to good 11m weather so the main pro event was started. In the first heat i had Chris Burke and Lancey boy Nunn. I was on my 11, whilst the others were on 16 and 15 respectively. I started with a good powered slim chance, blind judge and kiteloop3. After this i decided to go for a hooked to unhooked backloop kiteloop flat 3. My first attempt went really badly and i just wiped out. I then got back upwind again and went for the same trick again. I commited much more this time with a bigger loop, but as i grabbed the bar, it slipped and i had a horrific wipeout landing backwards at speed just before the heat ended. I walked out the water in a major daze but was told i hadwon the heat so i was pretty stoked as i thought i had no chance. For my next heat the wind picked up abit and i had enough power for my 9m. I was against Lewis Crathern and Denzil Williams. The heat started and immediately pulled a big front loop kungfoo pass to get things started. I folllowed it up with a back to blind airpass, slimchance and a front mobe which i didnt land. I then finished things with a big kiteloop3. Unfortunatly it wasnt enough to win the heat but i beat denzil so i was still in the competition. Lewis would advance to the final, and i would advance to the losers final, leaving Denzil out of the competition. After a couple more heats it should have been the losers final which was me against Sam Light. But the tide had moved out quite a long way and the water was getting very shallow. It was knee deep at its deepest. Sam and I both agreed that we would rather wait for the wind on sunday as apposed to risking injury. So competition finished for the day. The day was ended with a 7mile downwinder to Worthing to the tangereen bar. Saturday there was no wind so we just messed around on skateboards and neils electric scooter all day. Sunday morning we woke up to exactly 0mph. But it was sunny. I checked the live weather on my phone and there was 25knts in the channel so i had faith. Within 2 hours the wind was up and the competition was started with the juniors, seniors and a couple of heats of the mens and womens ams. It was then my losers final heat against Sam Light. The winner would go into the final against Lewis Crathern and Martyn Hogg. It had picked up to solid 9m weather now but the tide was coming in so it was gettin very choppy. The buzzer sounded and i started with a nice clean front loop kungfoo pass. I then went for a slim chance and had a stupid wipeout by accidently sending my kite. I got back to my board and upwind again and went for the slimchance and second time landed it really nicely. Sam responded with a blind judge, slim chance and a 313. I then came and pulled a big kiteloop handlepass. Between these handlepasses i did some nice kiteloops to unhooked grabs. On my next tack, i thought i would go for it. I went in at full speed and sent the kite into a big backloop kiteloop, unhooked and then went for the pass. I caught the bar right in the centre and then managed to land, bounce into a weird cartwheel splash things, arse check a bit, and then ride away. I was stoked as this was the best megaloop3 i had ever done. I finished my heat of with another HUGE 360kungfoo pass to seal the deal. I managed to win this heat and got through to the final, but on the megaloop 3 i had severly hurt my shoulder. Ended up that i had pulled all the muscles on the inside of my shoulder so i was in incredible pain. The final came up next and i almost didnt compete as i was in so much pain, but decided jus to fight through and compete for 7 more mins. Went out and did a slim, back to blind airpass, blind judge and 360kungfoo pass. None of them were particularly good but it managed to get me second place which i was happy with.
Well in 2 weeks now is the final round at hayling island.. As i missed the skegness event, it means i cant win the tour this year but i can get on the podium if everything goes well, so no real pressure on me. Im jus going to go out and show the crowds what the Uk kiters can do.
8th September Here are some pics of when Adam and Johara came up to blackpool.
28th August Wow. A lot has happened since my last update. A few days after returning from fuerte I headed out to Fuerteventura with fellow turbulence rider Johara, Ian Expix Edmondson and Andy Hoolie Hurst for the PKRA
15th July Got home from Cabarete yesterday morning so here is a bit of a report Well the Cabarete mission started on the Monday night when Hoggy picked me up from Blackpool after visiting Doncaster the day after Hunstanton. We then set of in the Subaru mondeo down to turbulence to sort out some gear and pic up some spares. But next trip is already planned and im going to Fuerte with turbulence team rider and leading BKSA PRO Woman Johara. Can’t wait. They had it large in Tarifa and I hope that Fuerte will be the same
13th June Im sorry i havent updated my site in a while. Ive been really busy doing exams and havent really had the time. But now all exams have finished and my summer has started. Im setting off for the 3rd round of the BKSA championships in Hunstanton tomrowo morning and am hoping there will be wind. Showing 13knts at the moment so might be enough. Even if there is no wind, then the even site looks fun with alternative activities including climbing wall, trampoline and a marquey full of nintendo wii's. Should be a crack. I will leave Sunday night from hunny and on tuesday morning im setting off on a trip with fellow turbulence team mate martyn hogg to go to cabarete. We're off to train for a few weeks and we're gonna compete in the PKRA there so wish us both luck. I reckon we'll need it haha. So yer. i Cant wait. Start of what will hopefully be an epic summer. Not sure what were doing when we get back from cabarete so ill update you on that.

friday 13th april All blackpool lads are heading up to the cable tow in rother valley sheffield due to weeks on no wind. Went last friday and it was epic and hope it too be as good this time. Im taking my camera and hopefully someone will have a video camera so we can video the action. Will post report on epic day later. cyas there biatches. 2nd April Just picked out a couple more pictures from debbie scots gallery.
Cheers to Turbulence for sorting me out and for my fellow turbulence team riders for the help on the beach... and the drinks on saturday nite ;) cheers guys 2nd place pro fleet. STOKED Watergate happened. I arrived on thursday to a great lack of wind but wonderful blue skys. Hung around the beach and car park for a few
people catchin up wit people i hadn't seen since last year. Eventually the wind picked up. From the carpark it felt like 9m weather but on the beach only 12, so up went the 12m. Was wicked to get out but was very cold. Dan James, Dan Gallemore Sean murphey to name a few joined
me on the water. Was quite nicely powered but was a bit sketchy as it was bang onshore. Ian pixels(expixs) also came into the water with his waterhousing to get some shots. THe sun was out so some awesom shots were taken.
The tide then started to get a bit high up to the cliffs so the wind went flukey and we decided to call it a day. I will put up some more pictures as soon as i get them. Friday morning dawned upon us with another sunny day but there were clouds coming in. The only wind we had was a bit of light cross off so no good for anything really. Just another day to chill out with everyone. Later in the afternoon the wind picked up abit but was sketchy and as the tide was almost in they couldnt run the comp. Also the rest of the northern monkeys joined us from blackpool ready to compete and session it up. Saterday we woke up to wind. I woke up early so went down the beach to check out the wind and test it with a kite. I chucked up my 9 and even though i was near the cliffs i could definatly feels the wind punching through. I also pumped up ma 12 just incase it was needed. Had some brekkie and when i got back there were lots more people setting up ready to get out. I decided to go out as the guiny pig to warm up for the comp. My wetsuit was soaking wet and cold from the day before so some of us got in the jacuzi at the watergate hotel to get into our wetsuits. That is officially the best way ever to get into a cold wetsuit. I went down the beach and launched my 9 to get to the water. The wind was stupidly gusty walkin down the beach. One minute the kite would be dropping out of the sky and the next it would be dragging me down the beach. But the further out i got the cleaner the wind was. As i hit the water the gustyness of the wind defiinatly showed. Maxed then undep[owered. I was really nice in the gusts but as it lulled i was just going down wind. I had a couple of runs and pulled a nice kiteloop pass on the way in. I came in and then walked up beach. The competition was about to start. I had my first heat against chris burke and lighty from South africa. The wind was really sketchy in our heat. First time around the heat was black flagged because the wind temporarily dissapeared. But 5mins later the gusty wind was back. The wind wasnt the best ever so it was a case of racking up the points instead of going for big tricks. I won this heat so that took me on to the semi finals and a rest after running up and down the beach. My next round was against rob snuggs and chris burke again as he had worked his way back into the competition. The wind was still dodgy but the heat went on. I pulled some nice handle passes and some kiteloops along with filler tricks during my heat. It didnt feel the best heat i had done but i won the heat which took me into the final. I was super stoked. THis gave me a garenteed 3rd position and a decent rest before the final. It was good to see everyone compete and i helped others running up the beach because it is really tiring in a heat. Lewis slowly clawed his way back into the competition and made it to the final, and fellow northern monkey mark connely made it too the losers final. Against him was rob snuggs, sam light and lance nun. It was a wicked battle with tricks being pulled off despite the aweful conditions. In the end mark connely made it into the final to compete with me and lewis. As the final approached the wind increased. I was on my 9m, mark on his 10.5 ion 2 and lewis on his 11 fuel. When the gusts came through it was perfect for boosting and looping but in the lulls it was abit naff. I started off with some small loops and spins to rack some points then i came in and did a nice dangle pass. On the next tack out a big gust came through and i hit a nice wave and pulled the biggest kiteloop ive ever done. Was just massive and landed it perfectly. THen on the next tack in i did another handlepass but arse checked the landing. While i was doing this lewis had done a dangle pass, a 360 handlepass and a handlepass downloop. The out come of the final was that lewis came 1st. I came 2nd and mark came 3rd. Me and mark were stoked wit our positions as it was our first pro podium postiions. After the pros they started running the ams and juniors but had to end for the day after a while becauase the tide had come to high and wind too flukey. On sunday the wind was even worse than the day before. Winds gusting from 5-25mph but it slowly died through out the day so the competition was cancelled. Beccie also from up north got a prize for best wipeout of the competition. She pulled a massive f16 and then a gust hit her and nailed her hard. The hit was very hard and she seemed dazed but still managed to get up and continue competing much to the shock of everone else. Full respect. Well cant wait for the event at barrow and furness now. Much closer event and i will probably drive there if i can rob the car for the weekend. See you all there STOKED>
Watergate bay is nearly apon us. Only week and a bit today. Lets hope the winds as good as last year Just received the new moonbeachretreat catalogue and please to say that i'm featured in it. Good sequence picture of me doing a raley taken by Leo Peers. Click here for the pdf of the flyer. There are also pictures of me used on the new lagoon beach website. check them out on www.lagoonbeach.co.uk Not wrote up on any sessions recently because there has been nothing really worth writing about. First bksa comp at watergate is looming and i cant wait. Should be awesom if last year is to go by. Thursday we had a laff. THE MONKEY WENCH It had been organised that Tim from Tantrum was to come over to fleetwood with his monkey wench. This is basically a contraption that allows you to wakeboard with out a boat. It is a 13hp honda rip off engine which has a reel of line and a wakeboard handle on the end. Turn the engine on and it reels in the line hauling you ass across the lake. We all had a great laff and after some funny wipepouts Tim showed us how it was really done. I didnt get much footage but i made a vid outa what i shot. # During the monkey sess, hoolie, connely and I decided the wind was up enough and grabbed our kites and set up on the beach. I was first in the air borrowing hangtimes 10m torch 3. We climbed up the sandunes and boosted off the 20ft dune into the boating lake and had a sess in the lake. Unfortunatly i dont have any video footage of this but i think Amos does. So if i get any ill put it online. Click here for the monkey wench vid. Thurs 15th Feb..... Southshore went OFF!!!! I woke up this morning to the south easterly winds we were predicted. PERFECT... Drove to southshore and to meet up with mupet mart and we got changed and kitted up then dumped all our kites in ma mums car and drove back up to st annes. Muppets lagoon was looking awesom and the plan was to sail the lagoon for a bit and then do the 3mile downwinder to stargate then sail there. We were joined at the launch spot by hamish, and then danmon, luke and josh whiteside, jake johnsen and kiting mike who were all well up for the sail. I was first out launching my 9m and felt pretty powered. Unfortunatly when i got to the water i wasnt very powered. It was enough to blast around but i wasnt able to keep upwind. I sailed out to where the lagoon entrance is and busted a couple of flat 3 of the kickers along with some comedy wipeouts which actually really hurt. Mupet mart then joined me and we decided just to head on the downwinder straight away as we were both slightly underpowered. With the wind slightly offshore the waves were jacking up nicely and it was a wicked ride down the waves all the way to stargate. Looking back upwind we could see everyone else heading out onto the water. Was a wicked site seeing 6 kites all running out to the water. hehe. When we got to stargate, both muppet and i ran in to get our skimboards to play around untill the wind picked up a bit. I blasted out and rocketed upwind to join the others on the water whilst martin played around in the waves for abit. As i got upwind the wind decided to kick in leaving me feeling overpowered and vunerable on my skim so headed back for the tt. At this point, philc hoolie and miklit were setting up ready for the sail. At this point the wind had definatly kicked in and i was lit when i went back out. Hangtime and kiteloops were the order of the day. Evryone was having a wicked time out and boosting some big airs. The session carried on till late in the afternoon untill we had to crawl of the water because we were soo tired. Jake had an early depart from the water as his chicken loop rope snapped mid kiteloop and his 5th line then snapping under the tension. A quick dash downwind and the kite was saved and someone else dragged jake to safety. With evryone looking out for each other the situation was quickly recovered and no harm done. Overall a quality session and hope to have more similar ones soon. Unfortunatly forcast doesnt look that good and it doesnt look like were going to head down to the Rush frozen jam because of the forcast. Went to the beach fairly early today to try and catch the wind but was greeted by about 10mph. Phil c, Mark connely and James were also at the beach but we decided it wasnt enough to bother. But Mark, James and I decided to bob up to fleetwood to have a landboard sess. THe wind started light but filled in a bit for a good little landboard sess. Alex@hangtimekites was out with his camera and got some amazing shots. Check out the pictures from todays action here.
Tuesday 13th Feb Again stargate was the spot of choice.Started off slightly after high tide and sailed the ride out. It seemed that skimboards were going to be riping today. I was out with muppet mart and andy again who both had there skimboard as well as there twintips on the beach. Wind was slightly up and down which was perfect as when the wind dropped, the skimboards just came out to play. Would have been a quality picture to see all riders out on twintips. Again the lagoons were awesom as the tide dropped and perfect for skim action. Muppet mart was learning his first ollies and even went for his first propa dangle pass from his skimboard. He will get there very soon. And Andy learnt to ride blind and was ripping. The vibes were definatly there today. I was having fun on my skimboard as it was the first time its been used in months. Unfortunatly the wind then dropped right off and the session was ended. Mon 12th Feb Stargate was the place for today. Went down slightly low water to be greated by solid 12m weather. Got to the water where Muppet mart and Andy were already out ripping. I got out to find i was maxed on my 12m so hangtime was the order of the session. Nothing beats a bit of big air. Everyone was busting out some good airs and having a great time. An hour or so later, Phil Clarkson and Mark "chav" Connelly joined us after bunking off work for the afternoon. Evryone was sailing well even though the water was freezing. As the tide worked its way up the beach, it filled 2 massive lagoons which are perfect for learning freestlye tricks. WHen the second lagoon filled near high tide, the wind dropeed slightly and most people were struggling to stay upwind, but it was perfect for my 12m for unhooking. I busted out some really nice slim chances and kiteloops in the lagoon and then finished off with a couple of kiteloop handlepasses to seal the deal. I was well chuffed as the its the first time ive done them on my new 12m. The wind then proceeded to drop untill there was nothing so we called it a day. Sat 10th Feb Wind started off slightly NE so the morning phone call was made to Hamish and it we decided to head up to fleetwood for a possible channel session. Wind was due to swing SE which would mean rushing back to lytham to sail the channel here. We got there and hung around for a while but the wind was shifting slightly offshore so we decided to wait and head back to lytham. Looking at the weather station in "Hangtime Kitesport" it gave us the grim news that it was -10 deg wind chill. We were keen non the less. The trip to lytham estury was made and we got there to be greeted with perfect wind and conditions. The tides have been quite low so the centre sandbar was staying exposed equalling super flat water. We set up and ran to what was freezing cold water. I went straight out to the sand bar to bust out some freestlye trick on my 12m. It was awesom. Flat and shallow water so any wipeouts just meant i had to stand up and run back to my board. I love these conditions. Hamish, Miklit, Hoolie, James, Justin,Eric, and Jo Cool were also out ripping on the water and i think most people had a wicked session. Well i don't really have much news at the moment. My knee seems to have almost fully recovered after an injury before christmas so i have just started pushing my riding a bit harder. I plan on going to the Rush kite jam later this month and will be entering the pros, and then a couple of months later will be the first BKSA round at Watergate bay. Hopefully the conditions will be as good as they were last year.
