The first weekend saw the the SKA British Student Nationals hit up the shores of Westward Ho!
It was a cold weekend, but jam packed full of students with entries being capped to 50 riders, competiting in Intermediates, Advance, Ladies and Pros. The saturday morning look doubtfull, with aproximatly 0mph when we first woke up ha. But after riders briefing, when everyone was getting ready for a chilled day on the beach, the wind switched on to about 20knts, and decided to stay for the day. The pros were held at the end of the day and wthe wind was strong. Just before my heat, i opted for my 9m RPM. The competition was run as a 15minute jam session, so it was like a double length heat. I took a nice start to the heat, with a few easy tricks to get warmed up. After a couple of minutes, the wind decided to drop a little, leaving me with alot of running up wind. This wasn't exactly ideal with a sprained MCL from the previous week of training. Lukely the wind picked up at the end of the head, and gave me enough time to land all the tricks i wanted to do. Liam and John were both throwing down, and im stoked we could put on a good show for the 50+ students watching on the shore. But im STOKED to say that I WON crowing me British Student Champion 2012. Bigups to the SKA for putting on a great event, EXPIX for getting some great shots, and SLINGSHOT for my lovely kit. Check out Heliphoto's new vid from southampton. We are still waiting for the right conditions to get some real kitesurf heli footage. Unfortunatly we are in the UK winter now, and when there is any wind, there is nearly always rain. But the time will come.
Nice vid anyway. :) While i was out at the KTE in Holland, i managed to get some shots of Tom Bridge tricking off the top of a floating mini. Check out the sequence that got into kitesurf mag.
So finally my new video is here. This was shot over just 3 sessions on the south coast of england near Southampton. Unfortunately the first session was very light wind, but the other 2 sessions made up for it. I also got some great shots with Heliphoto.biz and hope to get more shots like this in the future. Really hope you enjoy. Follow on twitter: AliBarrett10 Heli.Photobiz and Facebook AliBarrett10 HeliPhoto.biz Here are a few shots from the filming session last week at hurst.
Cheers to Richard Maries for the SHOTS Had an unlucky session the other day. The conditions were picture perfect, but the wind just wasnt enough,, I caught a few gusts on my 12m RPM, but that is about it. This is the start of my filming for a new UK video i am making After a couple of weeks back home in the north, the wind finally arrived. Just enough for a 12m and i got some cool shots with Jase Mac Photography.

And then during the festival i competed in both the Wakeboarindg,, run by Uniwake, and the Kitesurfing run by the SKA as the student nationals On friday and saturday we had some awesom wind (and rain) so the competitiong was run. The format was a jam session for 1 hour, then 6 finalists would session for an hour, with Pro riders Jon Bleiker and Holly Kennedy judging. The results were 1st: Meeee :) 2nd: Liam Procter 3rd: Alex Parker. It was real fun sessioning with all the guys, and the parties were insane, with the likes of Nero, Netsky, Camo n Krooked playing.. Another great year for beachbreak. Thanks to Alex Parker and SuperSaturated for the pics. |
